The Title

I realize that ‘monkey shines’ is a term meaning something like ‘mischievous behavior’, but to me the title almost feels like a reference to The Shining as well, considering the telepathic connection between the monkey and the guy. That would of course be a bit of a rip-off, since this is in no official way related to King’s novel nor Kubrick’s film, but still. Anyone know if the possible dual-meaning of the title was intentional, or am I just reaching?
