I have the LP and the cd as well. The first one I've found it in Copenhagen and the second one in a store of used cd's.
It's a wonderful soundtrack indeed!! U may want to check one of those stores or e-bay as well

I've had the LP since its 1st release. It propelled me into parenthood (a HARD
phase). I used it to rock my infant son to sleep. Last I checked, Amazon had
it at $100 for CD. It must be out of print. I will hold onto my record until
my last gasp of atmosphere! OR, if someone gives me $500 first. Make that a
grand if by the time I'm about to die. Perhaps I can be cremated with it. You
can't tell me you've never had morbid thoughts after watching the film. Exquis-
ite, morbid, living life-to-the-fullest dreams... just listening to the movie!

You can find it on Amazon.com. It's rare and fairly expensive. $75. I was lucky enough to find a cassette copy, I must have found it used online. I cherish it! Good luck!

I found the original press of the vinyl record in a used book store, bought it for two-dollars found out it was worth hundreds, but i won't sell it, it is sooooo freakin' good and has too many great memories for me

It just made #20 on Entertainment weekly's Top 25 New (1983 to now) Movie Soundtracks.

OOOOOH ! This news is so frustrating! Every time that Ive seen this film Ive wished that I could go buy that soundtrack. But no, its either not available or super-expensive (definitely for me on a 3rd World salary now!).

Im crossing my fingers that this soundtrack would be reissued on CD, either by its original company or some other, (like Rhino, etc), or just somehow one day.

Wow. I had no idea it was so rare. I have the CD and listen to it on my iPod/Mac and never think about it as being hard to get at all. :) Wish I could help out with MP3s but those pesky copyright laws get in the way. Good luck all.

Cool to know that this soundtrack came out on CD. It is now April 2011 and the link above to Amazon is still valid. It is listing used CDs for $14 to $24, new CDs at $79, used LPS from $10 to $79 and you can get a LP for $24.95 (makes me wish that I hadnt thrown away my record player now).

So now it does seem that "The Moderns" soundtrack is available for a reasonable price for us fans. These prices surely will vary as availability changes, but this is just on Amazon- I'm sure that shopping around will yield other sources for it.

The music made such an impression on me that I went out and bought the soundtrack on cassette right away. This was in 1988, and I still have it. It still plays and sounds great.

I always think of this album, along with Something Wild and Pretty in Pink (believe it or not, I also still have those on cassette), as the soundtrack to my late adolescence.

I had no idea this was a collectors' item! I should've known when I had a hard time finding it in any music store just 6 months after its release. I found a last copy at a little Mom and Pop CD store, brand new and original price about a year later. Other CD's of mine have come and gone but this one has stayed and will continue to do so. Wonderful music!
