Was the director looking for shock value?

I mean the song choice for the ending credits kinda sends chills. It's such a happy gospel song put in a movie of this nature. You would think they would put a group of ladies singing an accapella, which would be sad and depressing for a subject matter. Instead we get what could be soundtrack dissonance.

i think it was to make a contrast

If you think the credits had shock value, I don't think you know the meaning of the term. Go watch A Serbian Film and then tell me about directors looking for shock value.
