Isn't Jack's wife Gail basically a scumbag for what she did?

She dumped Jack for a guy everyone knows is on the take, is probably aware Jack was framed by him for the seven pounds of heroin, yet still goes along with the little suburban set-up and marries the corrupt police chief. I know women like to put the blinders on to situations they can't accept and sweep things under the rug, but this is really pushing it.

Yeah, taking all of that into account, why would Jack want her back?

No I meant Jack's love for Gail. Meaning he's still in love with her that he can't see just how much of a b**tch she can be.

reply

Nope, he knows that's a closed door, he just needed money for now.
His kid still loves him.

I wonder why she didn't go with Jack originally. I guess she had issues with him anyway in their marriage. That was a touching scene where he saw his daughter, though.

The daughter scene, was perhaps the most rational part of the whole film. A perfect reality-check for all the greed, intimidaton, back-stabbing & violence that occupy 95% of the film.

Great scene, and in a strange kind of way I would have hoped Jack and his daughter were reunited at some future point.

My guess would be that she thought he was stupid for not taking the money, since everyone else was doing it anyway.

Plus, she probably knew that by refusing the money his life would be ruined, he'd never get a real police job, and he would have to earn money by being a bounty hunter.

She probably did not want to put their daughter through all that, and opted for the security of marrying a police lieutenant over staying with a bounty hunter.

Yes, I've always felt Gail was a crappy person. Jack chose to leave (pretty much his only move) and she replaces him with a crooked cop. She obviously could have gone with Jack considering they had a child together. Now that Serrano is in federal custody, Jack could easily blow the whistle on all his former cop buddies. Jack was a true stand up guy, he knew ruining Gail's life would essentially hurt his daughter. A very unselfish move on his part to let things be.

She was a realist. In a capitalist world, realists are scumbags. they are all around you. Maybe, you are one yourself.

This was on cable last night. So, was his wife cheating on him with the other cop before he was fired or did she just leave him and then hooked up with other cop after he was fired.
