This film is wonderful. Why it didn't do well at the box office is beyond me. Billy Crystal and Alan King were not only very funny but their performances should have been worthy of Academy Awards. I love this movie and watch it whenever it's playing.
I love sentimental, "feel good" films about relationships and Love. This movie is comparable to the Hanks/Gleason flick "Nothing in Common". In both, the adult sons develop a special Bond with the ailing patriarchs. It is in times of tragedy and frail Health, that Family is most important. This film gives a special meaning to the old Adage, "Blood is thicker than Water".
Abbie:I'm going to lean on you,and you just lean on me.
This reminded me of "Nothing in Common" also, though I have to say I liked that film more. I appreciated the performances in "Memories of Me," but a lot of the conflict seemed rather stagey and it didn't really seem to go anywhere. Still, it was worthwhile for the cast. Alan King and Billy Crystal were terrific together.
