Let down by lame ending.

*Some spoilers*

Saw this again yesterday, and it was watchable until the stupid obviously rushed ending;

Where the hell did that rat come from? When they were racing their yacht, they never cleaned the damn thing, so it became rat infested?

Meg Tilly sees her HUSBAND get blown up in a boat, but doesn't hang around long enough to talk to the cops?

Scrawny Meg Tilly, managed to hurl a well-built muscular cop through a window frame and glass. The same cop, who hanged her step-father's girlfriend and made it look like suicide, I might add.

Mike let the rat loose after he filed the propane line.

Olivia DID hang around, probably was told to wait in the office just above the dock until the fire was doused - but it is weird she is alone there.

Hurling Mike out the window was a matter of leverage and desperation, completely believable given the circumstances.

This would have been a better movie with a happy ending. Once the masquerade was off, love should have triumphed. Oh well.

This is a film, so the writer and director have to TELL US this. We can't just assume. They can show us the details, or get a character to mention them.

Did you even watch the movie?

I agree that the ending felt rushed. They couldn't come up with any better way to kill off Lowe's character? A rat bites his hand and then triggers the pump which blows up the boat? Lazy ass writing.

Another dumb aspect of the ending: why did cop Mike decide to try to beat Olivia to death in his dad's office? How was he going to explain that?

I suppose the rationale would be that psycho Mike was totally obsessed with vengeance against Olivia (for breaking her promise as an 11-year-old to marry him). When he realized that his plan to kill her in the boat explosion had failed, and she was now on to him due to the newspaper clipping, he snapped and tried to kill her.

Umm, OK .....

reply

WHY not only KEEP that newspaper clipping but HAVE IT UP ON THE WALL? Ludicrous!
(At keast in films like SINGLE WHITE FEMALE and MISERY the villains HIDE their newspaper clippings!)

I dont know what was stupider: the rat or the newspaper cliping! This could have been a decent movie if not for that oh-so-stupid ending!

Nice work though by her, t..t deserved what he got!

Once again, I am forced to disagree with a lot of you fine posters. This movie's ending was spectacular, NOT lame!

Just when it looked like Tim was going to be ok, the rat that Mike planted on the boat bit Tim's hand, and well, we know the rest. The rat was pretty symbolic of the plot to do away with Olivia, or you could use it to represent Mike's disgusting character, or...whatever.
Of course, Olivia got very lucky when fighting Mike, and was able to push him through the window. But consider: here was a woman who had just lost her husband, then found out the hidden agendas. She is going to be pumped up with adrenaline! Don't underestimate the strength of someone in that state of mind (and body).
