Subliminal message

As mentioned in the trivia section. What's all that about then? Rubbish or no? I watched that scene frame by frame and could see nothing.

I agree with redchief2001. I've seen the movie several times, and I never found the subliminal message in the movie. When I finally purchased the widescreen DVD, the scene where the subliminal message appears is nowhere to be found. Frame by frame, scene after scene, NOTHING! After several viewings, I did notice editing problems, but no subliminal message.

Isn't that just the idea of subliminal messages - they are not seen by the naked eye?

It think it would need to be seen but not consciously registered. If you can't see it at all then in what sense would it exist?

You're exactly right, Red Chief. The idea of a subliminal message is that it is so fleeting or obscure that it registers on the mind only on a subconscious level. It is often achieved by flashing a word on the screen for a split second, or camouflaging a word within an object or scene (such as the wavers). A much-discussed recent example was the way the word "sex" is supposed intertwined in Rapunzel's hair in one scene in "Tangled."
