He never had trouble with Hanon.

At one point, Madame Sousatzka insulted him by saying that Hanon was all he was good for and played a bit of No. 1 from Hanon's "The Virtuoso Pianist In 60 Exercises."

Manek was never asked to play this piece and generally had no trouble with any pieces he was presented with.

Well....then the film has a huge flaw to ake audiences believe he was playing well Hannon 1!
