I really loved this movie. I just saw it for the second time, and I thought the plot was captivating and the acting was very good. I just really enjoyed it.

While I enjoyed watching this film, it was more because of the performances of Sidney Poitier & River Phoenix than the story itself. The plot and the development of the story seemed too contrived. But the chemistry and performances of Sidney & River are still riveting 20 years later. Watch Little Nikita for the acting.

Agreed! I thought Richard Jenkins and Caroline Kava were very good in the parent roles too.
