Practically same movie

Isn't this practically the same movie as Phoenix's "Running on Empty"..also from 1988?

reply

Yeah, very similar premise. River shares the same life experience as Danny Pope and Jeff Grant's, so he was the top most choice. It was him who established this connection in your mind. God, cannot believe River died 12 years ago. He might have made it bigger than Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt...

I was an extra on this film and only 14 at the time . . . I have pictures that we took during the shooting of this film . . River was only 16 and in fine form! Although the film was a flop - it opened my eyes to such a gifted and beautiful person . . I was shocked that he ever did drugs as was most of his fans. Rest in Peace River!

This film was a flop? but....it ROCKS!!

Does anyone know if this is available on dvd, I'd LOVE to get a copy.

reply

Yes it didn't get good reviews when it came out, but of course I loved it! The movie was filmed in my home town, so it's always fun to see places you recognize on the silver screen and catching the blur of my figure on film was fun as well! Yes it is on DVD . . go to amazon.com they sell it there. Here's a link to that page:

He mightve made it bigger?
What the f-ck.
He DID make it bigger.

reply

Yeah, River is a grand, for me (and many others) he is the best. He's got a rare talent and beauty and soul and the connection with people... Forever loved and missed!
Oh and by the way, I don't find the movies very similar, but I sure love them both;)!

This movie was BORING! Poor Lynch, he's to good an actor for this flick, same with Phoenix.

I actually found the film cheesy yet funny but nonetheless good.

Poitier is a great actor alongside with Phoenix so I think they made a great team.

Its an 80s film so you cannot expect the best quality.

The funniest past was when Jeff says to Roy 'I love girls and I like my girl' in his office, something along those lines can't remember exactly.

I only know I'm watching this anyway if it is trash because RIVER RULES!!!!!

"People think I have a lil' crush on River Phoenix, I don't I actually LOVE him!" - Said By Me!!!

I don't know. He was pretty small and aside from Stand By Me and The Last Crusade, he wasn't a very good actor imo. Of course as a kid I thought he was the best and the cutest, I also thought he was much older than he was. But now rewatching his films, his brother is the better actor.
