Not all child actors can pursue a career in acting after a certain age. Peter Billingsley who played Ralphie in the film "A Christmas Story" is a producer, and even stated he always wanted to work behind the camera and even started doing so on the film "A Christmas Story". He produced the two Iron Man films and has produced some other things.
I didn't find it confusing it two different films as seen from the perspective of the two lead characters in each film. A few years ago the television series "ER" did an episode from the perspective of several characters, restarting each segment from another characters perspective of what happened in the episode.
