Only good thing about this adaptation - Alec Guinness!

I watched both parts of this recently. I had seen and enjoyed the 2008 adaptation, but this adaptation was dull. Major characters missing, and very uninvolving in its nature. It only saving grace, a fine performance from the late Sir Alec Guinness.

He was absolutely spellbinding in a seemingly effortless performance. Understated and utterly believable.

Dull?? What nonsense!

I personally found the Disneyfied 2008 CGI laden version dull as dishwater. I can understand not wanting to sit through two 3 hour films, but it's hardly a dull film.

BTW I agree Alec Guinness was fantastic. Even my friend who hates him thought he was great and the most interesting character in the movie.
