Still a Funny Movie Today

The late Corey Haim(hopeless drug addict)shines here in one of his early hits

I remember seeing this at the drive in in 1988 and almost wetting my pants laughing at the drunk driver cutting limes on the dashboard. Just saw it again for the first time since then and it's just as funny today.

Agreed, I watched it today and kinda laughed my ass off. I love the dynamic between him and his dad, it's perfect. And yeah, Haim shines here, same with Feldman. Perfectly casted, on all counts.

Try finding a post-80s teen movie about a car, a girl and a night out and have it NOT be about nothing but vulgarity & mean-spiritedness.

That's the charm of License To Drive and why it holds up better today than the American Pie movies, Judd Apatow movies and all that other popular teen crap that's come out since this film. This film just wants to be a fun story with great characters and a great adventure by teens on the town. Nothing more. If this film came out in the late 90s, 00s or 10s, then you'd have the characters f-king pies, drinking until they pass out, gratuitous nudity/sex every scene and going to strip clubs.
