This was a good movie

I looked this up because I've just seen Behind the Candelabra with Michael Douglas. That was good, but I remembered seeing two made for tv movies about Liberace before. I specifically remembered this one, even though it's been many years since I've seen it.

The actor who plays Liberace in this movie was phenomenal. I'd forget at times that he was pretending to be Liberace. I recall thinking how well this man could act, since I remembered him from small parts in other films (always as a bad guy, I think).

This movie gives a balanced approach to both Liberace and his boy toys, while Behind the Candelabra portrays Liberace in a villainous light, IMO. I don't know which is correct, since I wasn't there, but the balanced approach seems to make more sense.

Anyway, I wish they'd show this on tv again. One thing, of course, is that the sexual relationships Liberace had were hinted at and not much was overtly stated, this movie being made in 1988. Which is fine. The movie still lets the viewers know what's going on.

I would rate this movie one star more than Behind the Candelabra, I think...although it's been many years since I've seen it, so I prefer to see it again before rating it.

I agree, I wish "they" would air this on cable or produce a DVD.

Then there was the other Liberace movie starring Victor Garber, of "Titanic" fame. Again, why no cable channels are capitalizing on "Behind The Candelabra" and playing these movies on TV OR issuing DVDs is anyone's guess.

I saw the Garber one on DVD at a shop online. Totally by accident. Thought they are probably promoting it because of the Michael Douglas-Matt Damon one. It was pretty cheap. If you're interested, PM me for the address. I don't know if it's OK to post those type of things on here or if they consider that SPAM.
