Rutger Hauer

First post? Oh, my.

Finally got a hold of this one, having read the novel many a moon ago.

Rutger Hauer, a fantastic actor, he does a fantastic job here, showing the perfect emotional mixture of both pride and desperation.

Great movie.

Pity no one 22 years ago thought so---or even SAW this. We might've been blessed with 20 years of lead roles, by the great Hauer, instead of watching him playing crappy supporting roles, to inferior actors.
His career should have been following a pattern similar to Paul Newman's, as he aged.

Hauer is awesome, and not as vacuous as Newman.

Oh---Newman was a wonderful & serious actor. Did a lot of great humanitarian work, with his 'Newman's Own' products. He even quit acting, when he found himself unable to remember all his lines. He cared that much.

He did far less crap than Hauer has---Hobo with a Shotgun--for instance, but I think they're both great talents. I just think Hauer has chosen roles imprudently.

Newman had good taste in scripts. Could read above a 5th grade level. Rare for an actor. Outside of that, nothing was there, much like Marilyn Monroe, his nothingness allowed for the audience to project whatever they wanted onto him, who he was, what they needed him to be.
