best portrayal of Jesus Christ ever

because it shows he wasn't the son of God. the idea that God would even need a son is ridiculous. why do christians feel the need for a "savior"? Jews and Muslims don't, so just drop it already. one God, no son

I don't know if it's the "best" portrayal of Jesus Christ, but it's probably up there as one of the best. It was great.

This movie doesn't seem to set out to debunk Christianity, it's more like a 'what if?' scenario about his life.

If you ask me the best movie portrayal of Jesus is Victor Garber in "Godspell".

It portrayed what could be considered a more realistic and even more honest depiction of who the man Jesus was. There was nothing for Christians to get up in arms about with this film, when it still followed the scripture story, yet adds in some interesting conflict, confusion and denial Jesus had about the acceptance of the divine within him. He didn't succumb to his temptation by the end, and this controversial aspect was only a deluded death dream anyway.

I recall seeing this when first released and there were bible bashers picketing outside the cinema complex and during the screening, several mentally ill ones would jump up and down and wave their bible over their head and shout nonsensical rhetoric at the screen. They got thrown out.
