Why do christians despise this film?

Scorsese is catholic and spend many years trying to create something very personal to him. Something that most destroyed him. And so he gets hate to spreading the word of jesus christ? I haven't seen the film yet but I really want to know why it's so hated amoung people who are christians/catholics.

You're move, creep

Jesus as a schizoid I guess. But that just shows how he was human as his time on earth here.

He ain't no schizoid!

I'm Christian (Catholic) and I thought it was very well made

reply

I'm Catholic and I enjoyed it. There are parts of it that were changed from the Bible but the portrayal of Jesus's human side was very interesting.

Jesus comes across as kind of clueless, his betrayer is turned into the hero of the story, and no matter how you interpret the ending Jesus was deceived by Satan. It's a completely unorthodox retelling of the gospel story, and Jesus has a sex scene. What's amazing is that Christians liked this movie as much as they did.

I supporting progressive Christianity as I am one but this one ain't it chief

reply

Im an ex- catholic atheist but this movie made me love the story of Jesus more than all the Sunday school lessons I every had, combined.

reply

Well, given your self description, I'm not surprised you would like a blasphemous film which denigrates Christianity.

reply

How does it denigrate Christianity?

reply

Christianity denigrates Christianity.

I do seem to remember reports that many of its most staunch opponents hasn’t even watched it.

I think it’s an excellent film, one of Scorsese’s best.

reply

I doubt that very few Christians even know about this movie. But I am pretty sure that any Christian who knows a bit about film and realises that the story is meant to be fictional wouldn't have a problem with this movie. Faith and this film are not the same so there is no reason to be offended. I still call myself a Christian and I would never be offended by any film that depicts anything from the bible.

reply

Most of Christianity is fictional.
