Adult voices for the characters ... who would you cast?

There's little question about it that this film is awesome and the sequels can generally be likened to an avalanche of s***, but I had an idea: what if they made a reboot (well, not really a reboot so much as a final definitive good film to end the series on) which featured the cast as adults? Who would you cast as the voices?

Tone: darker (but not necessarily more violent) and more mature - think "Legend of Korra" as a point of reference. It's still an adventure cartoon for kids, but the characters have grown up and are tackling adult problems; the story has no singalong songs, uses a darker and less vibrant color palette, tackles themes like death and destruction, causes the heroes to actually undergo great hardship and struggle to earn their happy ending, and of course has a genuinely scary villain.

Cast:
Adult Littlefoot (Bigfoot?): Nolan North or Nathan Fillion
Adult Cera: Jennifer Hale
Adult Petrie: Steve Blum
Adult Ducky: Tricia Helfer
Adult Spike: Dee Bradley Baker
Adult Chomper: Benedict Cumberbatch

What do you think? Who would you cast?

reply

I wouldn't count Chomper because he is not in the original. I also don't count Spike because he does not talk.

So here goes the rest:

Adult Littlefoot: Andrew Garfield
Adult Cera: Jennifer Lawrence
Adult Petrie: Aziz Ansari
Adult Ducky: Abigail Breslin

Still young actors, but I'm thinking of them as young adults.

Great choices! I originally put Dee Bradley Baker for Spike because he's quite good at doing animal noises (he "voices" Appa and Momo in Avatar The Last Airbender, and Pabu and Naga in Legend of Korra, among other animal roles).

Also, I included Chomper because, as much as the sequels suck, he's one of the few good characters from the sequels, because, let's face it, T-Rexes are awesome, and it's nice to have at least one T-rex character who's a protagonist. As an adult, being a carnivore would be a source of conflict and tension with the others, hence why I thought Benedict Cumberbatch would be a perfect choice - whether he's a hero (Sherlock Holmes), a straight-up villain (Smaug), or a conflicted, sympathetic villain (KHAN!), he has the right voice for the role.
