Lair of the White Worm: Chapter XVIII

Arabella, or Sylvia, as she is known in the film, kills another mongoose. This time tearing it in half with her bare hands. That makes two for Arabella and one for Sylvia.

And the great, white wyrm/worm/snake claims its first definite victim. Just two-thirds of the way through the book. Unlike in the film, where we see it claim its first victim some one-third of the way through the film.

And also unlike the film, here it is always preceded by a mysterious, green light.
