Why was this a good movie?

We've seen dozens of (anti-) death penalty movies before (In Cold Blood, The Chamber, Dead Man Walking, etc etc.) What the hell makes this snooze-fest special?

Well if you've seen it, you apparently don't like it ...

There's no convoluted plot or worthy characters/victims/murderers. It's direct, simple and bleak. The emotional tempo accelerates towards the end when the antagonist is put to death.

Because it's the most humanistic of them all.

It makes an interesting parallel between the two deaths. How they are shown is also interesting, showing only a enough detail without lingering over it. The short running time also helps.

If only we were amongst friends...or sane persons!
