I just cannot understand it...
Perhaps if this were to be a sickingly sweet, exagerated, churned out 100 times a year hollywood love story it might be understandable....
But seeing as this film shows a more realistic portrait of love, and the pain in love, I cannot understand how anybody would not relate to this in some way or another.
Any opinions?

I just gave this a 10, and I very rarely do that. I have given even fewer 1s, mostly to crap like "Meet the Spartans," which I'm embarrassed to admit I actually saw (otherwise I wouldn't be voting on it, of course).
I suspect the 1 voters for this film were required to watch it for their high school humanities class, and reading the subtitles made their head hurt.
This is a beautiful, lyrical, haunting film that I could watch every day – and probably should if I wasn't so busy spying on my neighbor.
I gave 1/10.
Because this film is for pathetic losers who live in delusions, expecting to be loved back without any life or any single social skill while the only action they are able to take is spying on a woman. And finally realizing that how hopless losers they are, they find the way to escape by killing themselves. The ultimate false expectation on real life that given by the film is if you truly love some woman, she will eventually love you back. No my friends, love is on the bottom priority checklist by women. Women care about power. Because I know it, and you all know that. So wake up your dream, live in the hell of the reality. Deal with it.
You seem to have developed the impression that this film was meant as a guide for how to deal with women. Not so.

shareThen I hope you give every Disney film, or equally (or even more so) delusional film a 1 as well. Actually, when I think about it, this film is less delusional than most Disney films, which are not only delusional, but damaging to young minds. Granted, this wouldn't be something I would recommend to show to your 5 year old, but it is a more realistic version of how screwed up relationships can be than most crap made in the last 50 years.
