Money Notices??

What are the money notices that Tomek keeps falsly issuing? I'm not from Poland and I presume this is a polish thing. Just curious as they play an important part in the early part of the movie.

This is post money transfer. Common in these times. Transfer lasted at least one week but cost was reasonably cheap.

Old question, but in case people other want to know. The money notices are basically postal money orders as they're known in the US. Personal checks don't exist in Poland. To pay someone, you have to take your money to the post office, fill out a form stating whom the money should go to, give them the money, then pray that the intended recipient will get it. Many old people still pay their utility bills this way. Nowadays the money just goes straight into a bank account.
