Polish idiom "Plakac nad rozlanym mlekiem" is exact equivalent of English "Crying over spilt milk". I am sure Kieslowski made this shot having in mind this idiom.
But this scene is not funny. I would rather say - sarcastic, touching, symbolic (as almost everything in Decalogue), but definitely not FUNNY.
IMHO this scene (and paralelly ending scene - when Magda sees herself in lunette of her imagination) are the most important parts of movie.
Thanks - I didn't realize that. Very interesting!
The scene definitely isn't "funny" in a conventional sense, but it just seemed slightly humorous due to that visual. It's a very poignant film overall.
It was a bit too obvious for my taste, but the rest of the film was pitch-perfect. And the scene at the end where she envisions herself during that moment was hauntingly beautiful.
shareI turned to my friend and said the same thing.
