Robert Downey Jr. is hilarious in this.

A lot of his stuff had to be ad-libbed. It's hard to imagine that some of his lines were written on the page that way. But he is very funny here. All his stuff with the girls in the hotel room, "I will hardly pop you without having met your father. Get him on the horn right now!". His restaurant waiter rant, "Actually, it's the fish or nothing!". And his subliminal messages to Johnny, "U.C.C. is your only move. U.C.C. is your evermost groove!" Those are just a few examples.

Anybody else find Downey hilarious in Johnny be Good?

Yeah, he was as funny as hell ... in my opinion he stole the movie.

" Why do you never eat at your house Leo ?"

" Well, basically, because my parents hate me, and they've accused me of carrying an ammonia filled tanacle around with me ...... Which of course i do NOT "

also one of Paul Gleason's best roles.

Great, underrated movie

I really think this has some of the funniest stuff Downey has ever done in it! The whole "ammonia-filled tentacle" speech STILL crack me up!

"The only person to celebrate Valentines Day the right way was Al Capone!". John Becker, M.D.

I like when it is 60-0 in the state finals and he walks up to the head coach very timidly and ask if he can get some playing time...

"Coach it 60-0 and it's the last game, think I can get in a play or two?"

(The coach grabs his clip board and throws him towards the bench "you don't want to play, get out of my face"

Honestly no, and I like Downey Jr. This piece of rubbish, along with the Pick Up Artist, is probably one where he wishes he could buy up every copy and burn it! At least his career recovered though. I'd say this POS probably helped tank Anthony Michael Hall's career, which was pretty promising at the time it was made.

Agreed, he was hysterical in ways so totally unrelated to the story line that I think this might have been the beginning of his serious drug use.

Yes Robert Downey Jr. is hilarious to watch in this film! Him and Michael Anthony Hall should get together and do a film where they are older or something. That would be cool to see.

I completely agree. Almost everything that comes out of his mouth is hilarious, and even the not so hilarious lines are made funnier by the way he delivers them and the tone of his voice. Also, this could be me hoping since I absolutely love bloopers, but during the scene in Johnny's bedroom where Johnny is talking about how Hisler has done him wrong and he says, "He's messed with me, he's messed with my Grandfathaaa," with an accentuated "ahhh" at the end, Robert laughs, and it looked to me to be unintentional. He went from acting super angry in his hilarious, over the top manner to letting a little chuckle slip out, recovered, then back to over the top. What do you guys think? Intentional or unintentional?

Yes I thought he was funny in this. I didn't really care for the movie. A lot of it was unfunny but Downey shined above the rest
