I find it a tough call between Police Story 1 and 2.

Policy Story 2 had more fights than Police Story 1.(love the playground fight)

Although the Mall fight was better than all the fights in Police Story 2.

And Police Story 1 had a better stunt in it(the sliding down the pole stunt).

But i dunno, tough call.

Yes. It IS a tough call. I have a huge fondness for Police Story 1, but overall, I keep getting drawn to Police Story 2.

I think it's the improvements to the story, and the continuation of the story. watsh them back to back and it truly lives up to it's name. Also, I love the a fact hwe had more to overcome in two.

The end scene where Maggie Cheung is crying into his arms and he says "Hey. Look at the fireworks." Always brings a tear to my eye. He goes through hell in that film, and that makes his truimph sweeter.

This one is actually very easy to call. I gotta go with PS1. It is the most insane and tightly wound of the three films. The mall fight scene really sealed the deal.

Cool. I felt all the early Police Stories easily topped New Police Story though. As much as I wanted to like it I just can't recommend it. I also enjoyed Crime Story, one of JC's most overlooked films!

Thr first Police Story is easily the best. The second one had a long boring bit in the middle, the thrid one didn't have enough good fights, the fourth one was too tongue in cheek, and New Police Story was not tongue in cheek enough.

Nah, the first one will always win hands down. Police Story 2 has some really nice bits though, like the coninuation of all the clashes between various characters, and the playground fight.

First Strike and Supercop are the best in the series hands down. Even though they might not have as many fights I just think story wise and entertainment wise, they just do a better job.
I still really like the first two though. I hope I can find the DD release in canada, but I have had no luck whatsoever.

It's hard choice, that's for sure. I'd go with one but having said that I haven't seen the second one in a few years. Three was good but more of a traditional action film than anything. As for First Strike, well I don't really think of that as part of the official canon.

It's tough, but I found I prefered the depth of Police Story 2 over 1, in particular how it carried on the story very closely of number 1 while having a new plot. 1 IS special, but i could be diplomatic and say 1&2 go together, but 3 and first strike, just don't count, sorry but they don't, bery disappointing story and pace wise

Police Story III still counts considering it has the same characters, but I'd agree the feel of the film is completely different to the first two. First Strike doesn't count simply because it removes most the characters and Jackie's character is simply called Jackie, which is just stupid.

I like the original Police Story best. Because I thought it had the best choreaography, stunts, and story overal. Truly a classic of Hong Kong cinema and one of Chan's All-Time Best.

I would rate them:
1/ Police Story 2
2/ Police Story
3/ Police Story 3

They're all great,but i think part 2 has the edge,it doesn't have the amazing opening and close of the first film but I think it's better paced,the comedy and action is better balanced and I think it's just a better all round film. Part 3 in my opinion is just average-until the awesome last half hour!

Not sure how I'd classify part 4,it feels more like a James Bond take-off than a Police Story film to me. I like it alot though.

It's like the Rocky series; the first two are closely tied and slightly darker and more emotional but from the third onwards its almost only about action.

I would rank the four in chronological order in terms of film quality. In terms of stunt and action, Supercop takes the cake, followed by PS, then First Strike and PS2.

LORD NO CHILD!!! THIS is the "THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK" of the whole series!!!! HANDS DOWN!1 SCIfi channel recently showed some of his films and even after not seeing it for a few years, it's brilliance has NOT diminished.

i never hAd a prob with the "humour" of PS1 its just the story and realization
of PS2 is better in that it's more mature and a step up as it's more emotional, its NOT a sequel with little connection to the 1st. The characters they made you care about in the 1st are there and they progress. There's tension and pacing that was missing from the HK cinema of the era. The climax of ps1 is AMAZING, but it can be seperate from the rest of the film. You REALLY feel Jackie's triumph IS something because of the sh it he endures to achieve it. It's not as satisfying as a classic and THE classic End-Fight of the 1st, but it's more emotional and huge kudos to jackie for not taking the easy road of giving a repeat of the 1st. It's a more complete film, a MOVIE. This is one on my list of "I REALLY REALLY REALLY wished/wish I saw/could see it on the big screen"! I must have rented it from my local blockbuster maybe 20-30 times before it got a dvd release, well actually until channel 4 showed it on TV. On my birthday no less!!! BEST! DAY! FU C KI NG! EVER!

I think the first Police Story is the best one by a good bit followed by Police Story 3, then Police Story 2. The mall fight is the best fight in the series followed by the playground fight, but Police Story 2 has the weakest story and the lamest villains whereas Police Story 1 and 3 are funnier and 3 has the great Michelle Yeoh.
