DVD release
Has anyone heard if this movie is going to be released on DVD? I think it's one of Spader's best preformances.
shareNot heard anything but it took me about 4 years to find a copy on VHS so I hope they re-release it on DVD.
shareYou can find a good copy of this film on dvd if you go to ebay. It's usually preety well priced also.

Unfortunetly, I wouldn't hold my breath. Though it's a good movie and respected by those who've seen it (and clearly has a small, but devoted cult following), I doubt it will ever be released on DVD. It is kind of obscure and basically went straight to video, no thanks, I'm sure, to poor marketing on Paramount's part. Just check out the film synopsis on the back of the video box for evidence of that. But we can dream. I'd love to hear a great commentary track with Herrington and Spader.

It just annoys me when you can see these cheesy 80's made for tv movies and stuff hit dvd and you can't find small gems like this. :(
I saw that Jack's Back has just been released on dvd in the UK.It's a fullscreen barebones disc but it would seem to be the only version available on dvd.
shareI got my copy today. The colour is still not good and in places it seems to suffer from 'flare' but it's better than the second-hand video I had previously.
Okay, anything that makes any of Spader's work more accessible to fans is good, but when oh when will "Family Tree" and "Diner" be available??????????

PS I am wondering what, if Spader did auto commentary, he would have to say about the scene where he wakes up wearing only his underwear. Would he or would he not confirm or deny the rumour that he was excited at the time, or would he say it was all an unfortunate camera angle?????????????????????

However, that's encouraged me to look at that scene on the DVD to see if it's any clearer than it was on my second-hand video.
There was definitely someone on the internet claiming he had "a boner", and it wasn't me, and it clearly wasn't you.

Who has the rights?
Go to Criterion and ask them to work on Satyajit Ray films, a good Kwaidan rerelease.
it's been released on DVD in the UK. you can buy it on ebay. it is a region 2 dvd.

It's on Region 2 DVD. Real cheap on Amazon.co.uk and Ebay.co.uk. Regionless DVD players are going really cheap on eBay too.
