OK am I the only one that noticed Richards finger nails? Or more to the point the small fields of coffee being grown under them! I mean im pretty sure the budget for the movie would also some soap and a nail brush. Just say'! :)~

If the director didn't want his unkempt nails in the scene, it would have been cut.
Think about what was going on with Richard (James Spader's character) just moments before.

It's symbolism. Rick is suppose to be the dirty bad boy and his brother's opposite in almost every way.
