Does someone at IMDb have it in for this flick?

When you go to the front page, The In Crowd rating shows up as I write at 5.6.

I thought that unfair (the 5's are crapola territory), but it's hard to argue with what overall public opinion should be.

Except, that is, when you go to the vote breakdown and see that the average of the actual votes was a 6.9 and the median a flat 7, which seem about right.

Somehow the super secret IMDb vote weighting brings the rating down almost 1.5 points, which makes no sense cause the votes have a pretty regular score distribution. No one is trying to stuff The In Crowd ballot box.

So I'm left with either IMDb intent or screw-up. Any other possibilities?

5's? are crapola territory? That's interesting to see how other voters think. That is probably why the rating system is so skewed. To me, on a scale of 1-10 a 5 is average. I vote a movie a 5 if I though it was "ok" , "decent" or "watchable". Now, anything lower to me is crapola territory and higher is above average to great to fantastic. This makes total sense to my logic, but not everyone thinks the same way, so in that sense the voting is severely flawed. if there were guidelines clearly stated on how the numbers are translated, the system would work better. I thought this film was well above average and approaching greatness for it's nostalgic feel, fun plot, decent script and solid directing and performances. I voted an 8/10

I agree it's skewed, but you have to judge the rating for a film by how everyone else votes.

Only 3 films (the first two Godfathers and Shawshank) have a 9 or above and very few (at least ones that come to notice for being anything other than failures) get a 1-4 averages. So 90-some percent of the movies you are going to look at will having ratings between 5 and 8.

An 8.0 gets a flick on the top 250 list.

The 7's are top tier

High 6's (gets a bit truncated towards the middle) are good

Mid 6's are watchable.

Low 6's a bit below average.

Anything in the 5's or below end up in crapola zone (even Jonah Hex is running at 4.6).

That's not necessarily how my voting system breaks down, but it is how the total spead of votes on IMDb does.

I'd say the film deserves to be at at least 7.
