Music from the movie

Does anyone know any or all of the songs from this movie? I have yet to find a single moting picture soundtrack listing and its driving me nuts!

reply

Well, the movie opens with "Sweet Soul Music" by Arthur Conley (which I have on a CD called Atlantic Soul Classics) and closes with Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." Haven't watched the movie in a while, so that's all I remember.

The song that plays at the beginning is "Sweet Soul Music" by Arthur Conley.

The song that plays while Del is dancing with the TV is "Do You Love Me?" by The Contours.

The song thats plays while Del & Gail are watching Vicki & Dugan dance on TV is Dionne Warwick's "Anyone Who Had A Heart". It's plays again when Vicki & Del have their last dance.

The song that plays when Del goes to pick Vicki up for their first date is "A Wonderful Dream" by The Majors. It plays again when Vicki & Del runs from the house.

The song that plays when Del & Vicki first kiss is "When You're Young & In Love" by The Marvelettes.

The song that plays while the crowd is lined up waiting to get in the show is Dobie Gray's "The In Crowd".

The song that plays the first time Del is on The Perry Parker Show is "The Real Thing" by Tina Britt.

The song that plays while Vicki & Del are geting ready for the Lovers Only dance is "Mickey's Monkey" by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.

Thank you so very much. You cannot begin to imagine how annoying it was to want these songs and not find the movie to get it from.

reply

Don't forget Jerry Butler's "Moon River" that played during the dance scene at the pier. Also, The Five Dutones' "Shake a Tail Feather" that played when Del was hanging out with Vicki's friends at the train station. :-)

reply

Someone put "Shake a Tail Feather" was performed by The Five Dutones, but is performed by Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.

reply

the mitch ryder version is not used in this movie.

I think there is a song which is not mentioned here.. When Del is leaving to go pick up Vickie, he drives into the downtown area and there is an instrumental song playing. What is that songs name?

reply

The instrumental (principal instrument: piano) was Grammy-winning "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" by Vince Guaraldi.

It was one of the few jazz songs to hit the top-40 pop charts in 1963.

The artist is principally known for his musical contributions to the Charlie Brown television specials ("Linus and Lucy", etc.)

WOW, 'honeychild79' -- I am sooooo proud of you, (& all the others) listing all those songs from this great flick! You would definitely (back then) be know as a 'yon teen' or a true 'amazon' from Jerry Blavat's referring to guys and gals as 'amazons and coyotes'. Sounds like you might know a thing or two from that time (I do--I was there at Jerry Blavat's dances in Philly--Perry Parker is based on him) and this movie truly brought it ALL back! WAY TO GO, honeychild79 !

reply

I also heard "The Locomotion" by Little Eva in the movie.

reply

whats the song on one of the shows where it starts off going dum dum dum di dum dum

reply

It's Mickey's Monkey by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles

reply

If you have the movie, all the songs (most of them, anyway) are listed in the credits. I've been watching this movie on a loop lately, and came here looking for the soundtrack listing myself, so the next time I watch it I was planning on writing them down for download. I'll post them all (or add to the other list if any have been left out) when I do that.

It's been driving me nuts, too :)

...If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me...

reply

I know I haven't been on this board in awhile....

That's exactly what I did. I watched the credits over & over again while I wrote down every song.

I knew there were a few songs I left out. Thanks to everyone who listed them.

I found all the songs on fileshare programs because the soundtrack (if there is one that actually exists) is impossible to find.

reply

I read there is no soundtrack because the film's studio Orion went bankrupt.I know all the songs have been listed I just wanted to add at one point "Cast Your Fate To the Wind" played on Del's transistor radio when he's in bed & his little brother has fallen to sleep.

I remember very well trying to read the song titles in the credits for the ones I didn't already know but the writing was too small even when I hit pause.(lol)

reply

I think the song Cool Jerk by the Capitols was on the soundtrack but I too have tried everyting to find out the entire soundtrack and have come up with nothing.

reply

One of the songs in the commercials was No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In) which was a hit by the T-Bones, whos members later evolved into Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds.

reply

Yep. and a little bit of the instrumental, Green Onions.

reply

Does anyone know that song that plays when Vicki and Del got 'married' and dance with their fans?
Del picks a girl out of the crowd, her leg has a brace (I'm dutch don't know how to say it otherwise).
It's an instrumentel/classic song to, but it ain't listed?
Does anyone know? I wanted to know it for years and years, maybe I find it now? Please help :-)

reply

Isn't that Jerry Butler's version of "Moon River"? The song has a vocal, but a very long instrumental break.

reply

Yes it is indeed that one I think.
Was hard to find; but I downloaded it in a bit diffrent version.
By the way; I really think this movie should be on dvd,
my VCR still works but the tape isn't so good anymore after all these years :-(

reply

Did 'The Mamas and the Papas' sing "The In Crowd"? Cause I have that song on cd. I was wondering if it was their single.

reply

It was one of the songs on The Mamas and the Papa’s first album 'If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears' but I don’t believe it was ever released as one of their singles.

The song was first made a hit by Dobie Gray a year earlier, in 1965, and that’s the version that plays in the movie.

As far as I’m concerned, both versions rock!

reply

Hi, I just read your post here and when you mentioned when Del picks a girl out of the crowd with the leg brace, she was hesitating to to go, the girl behind and to the left says "go ahead", her name is Marnie, and she is my wife's friend, and loved doing that movie back in 87, it was her only part! JUst thought I would tell you :-)

reply

haha, awesome. that would have been a fun movie to be an extra in.

That dance scene with the little girl is one of my all time favorites from ANY movie. I truly enjoy shedding a tear for how kind Del is at that moment.

Now I gotta go re-apply for my Man card and leave no reference of that in the application.

reply

hell, i'm female and NO movie scenes ever make me teary but that one does!
