Splendor in the Grass ON TV???

Now, I know that tv stations were beginning to play more theatrical movies to keep their audiences home on a Saturday night, but one of the few things that set me wondering about the acuracy of the small details in this movie, was when Vicki was sitting at home, early on a Saturday night watching Splendor in the Grass and claiming to "have watched it hundreds of times and crying each time" when the movie only came out four years before in the theater. Now, she could have been reporting how many times she'd seen it in the theater, but she was reacting more like a current tv viewer would say they'd watched "It's a Wonderful Life" or something else.

I wasn't old enough in 1965 to verify myself from personal experience, but it just seems unlikely. It didn't spoil the finer points of the movie for me, but it did seem to pinpoint the age of the writers of it :-) I did a bit of online research and found that NBC began running Marilyn films, etc with their Saturday Night At the Movies in 1961, but no sign of SitG in that first year's crop. http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=126661.0 Anyone care to educate me further?

Probably just a bit of forgivable writer's invention to show how emotional Vicki could become over her favorite actress, Natalie Wood. It's not meant to be taken as a documentary of how Splendor in the Grass was actually shown on TV in the summer of 1965. To paraphrase Alfred Hitchcock, "Relax. It's only a movie."

People exaggerate for effect. "He has embarrased me in public thousands of times" Really?

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

I understand what the OP is saying though. I thought it was odd too considering the film is supposed to be taking place in 1965.
