Why no DVD version?

I know that this is probably a cult favorite as opposed to a movie that would sell millions of copies, but am I the only one who is surprised there hasn't been a DVD release of "The In Crowd" yet? I mean, I have seen some pretty obscure films pop up on DVD and some other ones that weren't obscure but pretty terrible. I'd rather buy a copy of this than some garbage like "Gigli" or some made for tv movie. I personally think that this movie is much better than "Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights" and perhaps as a promotion, it could be released along with the original "Dirty Dancing" film. People already consider this the male version of "Dirty Dancing" so why not offer a sort of double feature. I've seen a lot of that lately. When I've gone to Wal-Mart or Sam's Club, there have been double feature promotions where two DVDs that are similar (either they have the same actor/actress in both movies or they have similar themes) are packaged together and sold for a little more than just the individual movie. I would bet that you could get some of the main cast to give some brief interviews about the movie and the only other thing I think would be good to include would be a soundtrack listing on the DVD so people won't have to stand an inch away from their TV rewinding and pausing the tape just to make sure they haven't missed any songs. I wonder how many people there would have to be willing to buy a dvd before whoever has the authority to put one out would consider it. At this point, I'd just like the movie even without any extras because my copy is in not so great shape and VHS tapes don't have that long of a shelf life.

This is really covered in the "I have this movie..." thread http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095362/board/nest/16258019.

In fact the first poster, NorthernSoulDJ, was quite helpful to me and I've been very pleased with the results.

Any questions you can reach me at btrl4 at yahoo dot com.

It's hard to get probably because it's from Orion, who was bought by MGM, who was bought by Sony. And it flopped.

I used to have this on VHS, and, after just hearing "Like a Rolling Stone," wish I held on to it. I actually saw this in the theatre (at the AMC 8 in Marlton, NJ) during its waaay limited release; I guess it was released only in the Philly region. I even know a couple of extras in it, specifically the scene at the Tower theatre.

I don't have a point, really. I just miss this movie and want to watch it right now!

It should be packaged along with Hairspray, The Idolmaker and The Five Heartbeats. Talk about a great box set. Include the soundtracks on CD as well.

Email me and I'll send more info about getting a DVD copy of the movie from a clean VHS transfer.

I love this movie, I just wish the studio with the copyrights hurry up and release this fun film on DVD before it gets lost in a vault somewhere.

Its on MGM HD now 7-7-08. Reall widescreen upconverted to HD. Maybe MGM will release this version. Its as good as I remembered and way better than the copy on VHS thats been watched about 100m times.

I also consider this little "obscure" film to be worthy of a DVD pressing!! I never owned the VHS, but would even be happy with that version. How is it that total dreck can be released on DVD, but this catchy little film not?? I'll keep checking. If anyone has any ideas on how we can get this released on DVD, please advise, thanks!

I agree, it is a great movie that probably would have done better if it had opened in a different year than the original Hairspray.

To the op, I never even heard of this movie until two years ago and by accident watching cable tv in Las Vegas. I'm residing in San Francisco and it's not available at Virgin Megastore, Rasputin's, or even Amoeba records.

Popped up on the MGM HD channel recently so of course I had to DVR it...if only I had the means to burn it to disc, even with its one commercial break.

I want this on DVD! Can whatever studio that has the rights to this movie do what Warner has done with its Archive Collection? If I can buy American Anthem for like $20, why not some sweet soul music at the Tower?

I would like to see this on dvd as well. My vhs copy is on it's last leg! Great film, indeed. Should be in a dvd box set with Dirty Dancing and Hairspray (John Waters Version)

I have great news it's available to buy & rent on Amazon Instant Video in HD and also in SD. I about fainted when I was trying to find a DVD copy on Amazon I'm so happy I finally have it, I cried when it started playing as I haven't seen it since 1988 when I was 12.

Must have been a limited license because it's not available anymore.
