Rourke shouldn't hate this film.

This is a great film!

Robin Williams ? that will annoy some people

reply

How do we know he hates it? Has he said so in interviews? According to IMDB, he wrote the screenplay.

reply

We don't know he hates it, but he sued to stop the release of the feature, so I'm assuming he doesn't like it too much.

calm down.

And the music really adds to the feel of lonliness; how Johnny doesn't want to be alone. Quite sad, but nice to see a happy ending.

I was just curious. I hope this negative screenwriting experience doesn't discourage him from trying it again in the future. I'm a fan of "Homeboy" as well, it is arguably Rourke's most obscure work.

reply

He tired to block the film's release because the money and creative control promised to him were never delivered.
This was the time that Mickey thought he could no wrong and that he wouldn't feel the burn of any of it.

It is a great story and maybe Mickey thought about it when he did some of his dialogue in The Wrestler.

reply

But maybe he doesn't hate it anymore. In fact, he gave a tape of it to Darren Aronofsky while they were making The Wrestler.

reply

Too many parallels to The Wrestler. It's safe to say if Homeboy didn't happen, The Wrestler may not have happened.

Thanks for the unexpected reply.

Had forgotten all about my 15 year old self and his poor attempt at writing English. Got a good chuckle out of it. Too bad I couldn't resist my urge to go all George Lucas on 'em.

But I digress...

Here's the link where Darren talks about it:

A shame that Mickey destroyed himself and his career all over again. Now that's a tragic story.
