Remake

I think that they should remake this movie or make a GOOD sequal. I have just always really liked this film

NOOOOOO!!!!

Sorry Jessie, it's just I think that's a terrible idea. Remakes seem to be all the trend at the moment but my argument is always, why mess with perfection?

That said, with a few possible exceptions, I don't think any of the roles are that difficult to play and could easily be portrayed by any number of current young actors. The exception would be Peter Plunkett who would need to be played by a really good middle-aged actor but Peter O'Toole so made that role his own it's difficult to visualise anyone else as that character. I'm also rather attached to Liam Neeson's portrayal as Martin but essentially it would need to be someone with charisma who could do 'bad but also dead sexy'.

But the other characters - Jack, Mary, Sharon and the rest of the Americans - are not (to my mind) that demanding to play. Mary could be Anne Hathaway, Jack could be James Franco. Sharon could be played by any number of young actresses that can do 'bitchy'.

A sequel might be interesting. I did have an idea that involved Jim Brogan (Sharon's father) turning up unexpectedly at Castle Plunkett to find out what's happened to his daughter and finds Jack and Mary together and (at some point along the way) discovers that Sharon is a ghost. But essentially the sequel could involve a similar plot where Jim Brogan is threatening to demolish the castle and Martin and Sharon along with Jack and Mary have to stop him.

"He murders his wife every night. Other than that, I think he's pretty harmless."

I totally agree about Peter O'Toole !
I love him as an actor and agree that perhaps a sequal would be a better idea
