How did Dr. Chinnard know *spoilers ahead*

Watching this film again after so many years has me wondering about something. Remember when Kyle broke into Dr. Chinnard's home? When he enters that room where Chinnard's collection is stored, we see a picture of Capt. Spencer. I'm led to believe Chinnard's goal was to become a Cenobite and here's my question. How could he have known about Pinhead and his human origins? How did he make the connection?

I don't think he knew. He probably researched everything he could about the puzzle box and must have come across a news article about a British Army captain going missing and a mysterious puzzle box being found in his quarters. He may have had pictures and articles about other people who went missing shortly after obtaining the box.

Hellbound, you are my hero! That makes perfect sense!!!!!!!!!! It goes to show the depths that Channard went to in the name of knowledge and research. Thanks for answering my question and solving that mystery for me.

How does it make perfect sense? Channard had sketches of the creation of Pinhead right behind the photo of Spencer. How could anyone know of Pinhead and how he was created unless they sat down and had an interview with the lead Cenobite? 

It's just there to propel the plot forward, but that information really made no sense. There is no reason for it to be available in the real world. Had Channard already been to hell and somehow had access to certain knowledge, it would have worked better. But, the film makes it clear that he has not made it that far yet.

There was lots of cool stuff here, but sadly they didn't bother to weave it all into a cohesive plot. Things just happen to be happening.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

It wasn't a drawing a Pinhead, but rather a phrenology chart. Just one of the many pseudo-scientific and occult items that Channard had collected over the years.

It's unrelated to the picture of Elliot Spencer and was only there to remind Kirsty of Pinhead while she was looking at the photograph. It's possible that the face was familiar to her and seeing the head chart caused her to realize who it was.
