One thing I've noticed is in general, a lot of horror/thriller movies have a character end up institutionalized in the sequel(often the first sequel but not always). Child's Play 2 had the mother in an asylum and Andy in foster care, Terminator 2 had Sarah institutionalized and John also in foster care, Laurie Strode was in a mental hospital in Halloween Resurrection after the events of H20. The usual formula goes 1. Main character has a run in with a monster/demon/robot assassin from the future 2. Tries to explain all the death and destruction to the authorities 3. Authorities call the men in white coats.
