Why does she have the cast on?

I've seen the movie twice and it doesn't explain why she's wearing a cast. I believe I saw a photo of Jennifer Jason Leigh at a premier wearing the cast, so she may have been wearing it for reasons other than the movie and just wore it for the film. I wonder how she got it.

In the director commentary on the blu-ray he says she broke her leg right before shooting. It actually works very well for the character, but it must've been hell for her running through all those hallways.

Wow! That is so neat, thanks. He wouldn't happen to tell how she broke it, would he? Don't know why I'm so interested.
