I say go ahead and see it.

What you need to keep in mind about the 2007 film is that it is NOT a remake of this film. It is a film adaptation of the Broadway musical, which yes, was based on this film, but they're two totally different beasts, as it were.

Both films have merit, so long as you view them as two different films rather than original and remake.

The new one is pretty good, though I prefer this one. I guess I liked certain scenes in this one and was a little disappointed that they were changed. Like I liked how Tracy is picked to be on the Corny Collins show, and I like the way Link and Tracy get together. I also liked the dogdeball scene in this one.
I liked the cast in the second one better, but the story in the first one, I guess.

I think it's all a matter of opinion. I prefer the remake based on the musical better. I think the acting was great and it had be laughing and all happy and dancy etc. But I also saw it before I saw the original . . .

Heck no!! The old one sucked. I just rented it cuz I loved the new 1 so much so I wanted to see how the 1st one was. The new one is like one of my favorite movies now. I could watch it over and over again. As for the old one, I couldn't wait for it to be over while i watching it, therefore, i could never watch it again. It was completely different than the 2007 version. It did have some funny parts though but the acting wasn't all that and the scenes weren't half as good as the new ones. I don't even know many actors in the old one. I recognize almost every actor in the new one. And as for Zac Efron, he is so hott!! Travolta did a great job as Edna. He's a great actor anyway. And so is Christopher Walken whom is one of my favorite actors. Another reason the new one is better is cuz of the music. I loved the singing. I have the CD in my car and on Itunes (and Ipod) which I listen to almost everyday. And like I said before, the scenes were so much better in the new one especially how the movie starts off. And Nicki did a better job than Ricki. Nicki's Tracy ws more innocnet plus Nikki is cuter than Ricki. And as for the hair, the old movie styles looked tacky. So, anyone who thiks the old one is better than you're crazy. The new version is wayyyyyyyy better!! But everyone has a different opinion and I don't know how they could like the older version better though.

I liked Rikki Lake.. and I liked that the Von Tussles were outrageous in the first one and that Amber seemed a little more bitchy.

I did NOT like that their dancing sucked a little.. and that there wasn't much aspect of Hairspray.

I would say I loved the musical version much better it made it so much more upbeat and made it move smoother and I thing James Marsden is HOT.

So I'm gonna have to say that Hairspray 2007 was much better than Hairspray 1988

You are honestly the kind of person that makes people assume that I'm a fangirl and a moron. But, since everyone should state why they like or dislike something, I'll go into detail.

It did have some funny parts though but the acting wasn't all that and the scenes weren't half as good as the new ones.

This sentence in and of itself should invalidate your opinion. What are you referring to, the scenes themselves, or the cinematography? If it's the scenes, it supposed to be hokey. If it's the cinematography, the first one wasn't a big-budget thing, because New Line was small, so they didn't have a ton of money to spend.

I don't even know many actors in the old one. I recognize almost every actor in the new one.

Um, for one thing, it was 1988. Unless you were alive then, which I'm guessing you weren't, because most people with crushes on Ron Weasley are crazy teenagers, and because you grammar is reminiscent of a fangirl in middle school. It is unlikely that you are a 30ish fangirl. For another, they couldn't afford to pay movie legend salaries. This was a small company of people making a movie that was going to be marketed to, well, stoned people at midnight.

And as for Zac Efron, he is so hott!!

Note the lack of reference to any acting skills, which indicates, again, a 12-year-old fangirl.

Nicki's Tracy ws more innocnet

John Waters has a totally different sense of humor than the makers of the 2007 version. His version was aimed, again, at high people in the middle of the night. If you look at his other movies, they're much dirtier. The 2007 version is aimed at primarily fangirls of Zac Efron and families with small children. Of course the new Tracy is more innocent.

And as for the hair, the old movie styles looked tacky.

I'm questioning the fact that you don't think the hairstyles from the new movie look tacky. Also, the old hairstyles were more authentic to the era. I have no idea why you would complain about somebody getting the subject matter correct.

So, anyone who thiks the old one is better than you're crazy. The new version is wayyyyyyyy better!! But everyone has a different opinion and I don't know how they could like the older version better though.

Yeah. I'm going to just leave this one. There is nothing I could honestly do to make this sound more jerky.

I dunno, the new one has some really good energy. But I really prefer the rawness and kinda indie style of the old one. I mean, there wouldn't be a 2007 film if it wasn't for this one! Plus, John's just too pretty as a woman to be Edna, but that's just my opinion. :)

The old movie is TERRIBLE. I thought the acting was terrible and just everything overall was so brutal. The new one is much better.

Hairspray 1988 is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY BETTER. I think people saying otherwise are just young kids who haven't really seen that many films, or just end up being satisfied with whatEVER hollywood spoon feeds them. They definitely have NOT seen any other John Waters films, cos if they didn't like this - God knows what they'd make of the others. The original is like one of the best films EVERRRR!
