wow

has it really been a year and a half since anyone has posted for 'Grotesque'?
I'll admit it's terrible, but that's why we like these type of movies, right?
They're funny.
The first time I saw it was on either Commander USA's Groovy Movies, or Saturday Nightmares.
They were both mid to late 1980's broadcasts on the USA Network in the Pittsburgh area.
Anyone else remember Commander USA?
How about 'Scream Theatre'?

firt time i saw it was in '91-'93 on saturday nightmares on usa. remember the night vividly. maybe it was even before '91.

reply

i can't remember exactly when i saw grotesque for the first time...but I think it was early nineties on 'saturday nightmares' too. late eighties was 'Commander USA's groovy movies', and 'up all night' w/ gilbert and rhonda was early to mid nineties. rhonda apperared in playboy right around the time she was hosting that show...i remember that vividly!

I watched this one on Latin America's USA NETWORK version of "Up All Night", called "Levantado Toda La Noche" hosted by the hot Shelly Moreno.

I regret for not taping "Grotesque" , one of the worst Horror movies ever made but I can't deny it was cheese for the please.

It was kinda fun in a harmless way...I liked it!

when you saw that hand holding on to the banister, going up the stairs, and the heavy breathing......my friends and i laughed over and over and cracked another beer.

those punks thought they were badass....until they met the grotesque kid locked up in that secret room.

reply

I just put it to DVD. Fun movie, wish I had the alternate ending.

reply

what's the alternate ending???

reply

It was on the USA Network cut. A scene that happens after the real version ends, it turns out Grotesque is just a movie playing in a theater. Frankenstein and the Wolf Man jump out and scare the audience away among them Linda Blair, I believe. Then the monsters talk about how bad the movie scene has been lately. Something like that. Check out the comments section on this movie and some of the posters mention this ending also.

I haven't been back at this subject for a while but the ending you mentioned is the only one I know...didn't know it was supposed to be an alternate ending...you learn something new every day I guess!

wow...i'd love to see that ending...classic 80's B style!

just to say, there's a region 2 (UK) boxset on amazon.co.uk, with dvds of Grotesque, Demon Wind and The Night Caller. All fullscreen, stereo b.s. but it does have that ending on it. "We're still the scariest!"

....nope. you're not, at least in this version...

reply

there are worse movies on dvd and seeing Linda Blair was in it you think they would capitalize on her name and get it out there

When this was shown in the early 90's I must have been out partying or something because I have never seen this movie before but I started to watch USA UP ALL NIGHT back in 1989 or 1990 until the show went off the air.

I miss USA UP ALL NIGHT because they would show a lot of cheesy movies that I loved to watch!

***** SPOILERS****

I just watched it, I rented it because it seemed weird. It misses some gore scenes, like how the officer (don't remember his name) with the *beep* face patched the 2 punks to make them horrible. I think that nowadays we would have seen this scene, it would've been important to show how it happenned in a Hostel way.

found it as a torrent...includes the movie theatre scene ending with frankenstein and wolfman

i can appreciate the movie more with this ending attatched...reminds you it's just a budget movie and not trying to be serious

reply

Did it look like a TV cut?

reply

it looked 'official' to me, not sure though

reply

Oh my God....am I telling my age because I sure do remember Commander USA....and the movies that showed normally on a Saturday afternoon.

Just saw this tonight. Maybe one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

reply

Saw it on Saturday Nightmares (I think) ages ago. I'm surprised it's on so few Really Bad Horror Movies lists.

I just watched this film last night; it's a hilariously horrendous hoot and a half.

I first saw "Grotesque" in a movie theater. It was part of a triple feature and that's probably what kept me and the audience from tearing the place down. It's hard to believe that movies as bad as this one actually had the dignity of being projected on the large screen. But the fact is, movies like "Grotesque" were released every single weak in the grind houses I often frequented back then.

Yeah, it's a silly little movie but I found it quite a hoot.
