Why does Theresa act that way with Calvin?

When she first sees him, the other women in the shelter explain who he is and that's he's a kind man. But she almost runs over to Hilary when she sees him talk to her with an abrupt "Hilary!". And when he introduces himself and asks if he can give Hilary a necklace, she acts so hesitant as if he's a pervert!

Why does she act this way?

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

She was surrounded by a lot of scary people on the streets. I don't think it was shocking to see her concerned about some random man talking to Hilary.

But she knew he wasn't some 'random man'.
The woman sitting next to Theresa had already explained about him, Theresa was right there watching, and all he did basically was say hello to Hillary.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.

Penfold, shush.

I don't think she acted that way with Calvin. Hilary ran over to the TV and some oddball touched her hair, that is when she ran over and defended her and rightly so. That guy was a weirdo.

I'm talking about the nice caseworker that tries to help Theresa throughout the movie.
