What language they were speaking?

English?!! I can understand english mostly. Why then I don't know what they were talking about? No more Australian movies without subtitles.

I'm guessing English isn't your first language? I'm British and understood it easily enough, I didn't think the dialects were that strong. I suggest you try some Ken Loach films such as 'Kes' or 'Sweet Sixteen' if you really wanted to test your English. They have some very difficult British accents to understand!

This is such an insulting question. The posters first language is clearly not English -or else he just has very poor grammar. Either way, it is obvious that the problem is his. The proper question would be what accent is that. It would be stupid question of course as imDb gives the full details - but it least it would be honest , and not a pretence that an accent that is simply not familiar to you is so outlandish that it warrants the suggestion that it's not even English.

If you look at a specification for English 'Dialects : while a compliant modulator MUST be able to produce Standard English (modulators MAY additionally support other dialects), a compliant demodulator MUST be able to handle all the dialects in the Global English set'.
