Sadly the last F13 with the classic lake/woods setting throughout

I suppose many have noticed but this is the last of the old "real" Friday movies that takes place throughout the movie in and around the Chrystal Lake and the surrounding woods. I like part 8 JTM cause its entertaining but still 80s feeling, but hate the later F13 movies cause from this movie they dropped the lake/woods setting. I really like this movie it has that classic 80s feel and plenty of time of people and Jason running around in the scary woods and also skinnydipping, partying and a likeable leading lady:), thats whats really good about these older movies besides the slasher action and campy horror elements, so too bad they had to take Jason to hell, through space and battle Krueger they should have stuck with this woods setting after part 8,more down to earth. What are your oppinions on this?

This movie also has the last real campfire and tenting in the woods scene of the movies that I always liked and find scary cause it makes you think it could happen to you. And its a good one with Jason crushing them, especially that girl in her sleeping bag, imaginative by Jason not to use the machete in this one:)

Well well we always have these first 8 classic Fridays to watch over again and ignore the later, though Im happy they returned to the woods-setting with the latest F13 remake, that movie is watchable and feels a lot like the first 4.

Well said. Though I did like Freddy vs. Jason, only because I feel like Jason kicked some major ass, JGTH and the remake were crap piles. I'd choose this one over any that came after of it most of the time. I've only seen part 8 once, and I should give it another shot. I felt it was a relatively good installment.
The woods are what made this series. Think of it, Jason as we know him didn't even show up till half way through part 3, but the first two are probably my favorites. It's the elements you mentioned that make them so great.

In a way though, it was good the woods setting was dropped. They kept it for seven films, eight if you count the remake, so it was good to tread new territory. . .and not really have a been there, done that feel. Even though JGTH and FvJ were terrible lol.

reply

Valid point, but I think it's cancelled out by how bad the movies were (besides part 8, which was still mediocre).

reply

The remake feels nothing like the first 4 and is a terrible film and sequel/reboot.

I thought it was pretty decent and it still felt somewhat like a F13 film to me.

Shred-com your right the Remake was just plain awful there was nothing good about it at all it completely sucked

I think they should have just ended the series in the 80's with Part 8. It was definitely just an 80's thing and they shouldn't of tried to replicate it in the 90's or the 00's or 10's etc cause they just sucked. Idk if i'm making much sense but movies like that just changed when the 80's were over. You'd never get a Friday the 13th now that would feel the same as the ones from the 80's.

But I think a big part of that has to do with how the special effects are done. Besides JGTH (which everyone hates but I actually thought was a pretty cool addition to the series) the post-80's Ft13th's were all done using CGI effects for the most part. If you got some really awesome special effects...NOT COMPUTER GENERATED...back into the series, and used the right kind of cameras, it might feel like you're watching one of the 80's classics again. Of course, the clothing style and other modern day nuances are going to make it difficult if overly-used (i.e., cell phones). But I think it could be done. Sadly it won't be, because the idiots in charge of this series now are so obviously not fans of the series. : /

Oh, and one more thing...you just read my signature.

Yeah ever since New Line took over we lost the classic Jason in the woods setting. Now New Line has portrayed him as a body hopping demon, then they put him in space, and then made him fight Freddy. At least in FvsJ we finally got to go back to Crystal Lake for the end fight. Then you have the remake which puts him back in the woods, but too bad it sucked and it cancels out the original timeline which is a terrible thing to do.

Although I did in fact enjoy Jason Goes To Hell as well as FvsJ (I'm indifferent to Jason X) I still miss the cabin and woods setting. It's just not the same with out it. Even part V with the fake Jason was still set in the woods and it still has that same Friday the 13th feel that JGTH and Jason X never had. FvsJ was at least able to bring that feel back if only for a short period of time which is why I appreciate it a lot.

A lot of folks criticize it for being just "the same thing over and over" but I as a Friday fan I say GOOD. The woods is where Jason belongs. He certainly wouldn't be roaming around NY city that's for sure. Although that movie certainly had the 80's feel unlike JGTH.

I want Jason to be in the woods, forever. Although it will never happen but they could make 10 more sequels over the next few years and I'd want each and every one of them to take place in the woods because again, that's Jason's home. And I hate that New Line took that away!

Yeah then we got Jason meandering in NY with no one batting an eye, I mean come on New Yorkers aren't THAT apathetic are they??? Or I could be wrong.

Then we have him possessing bodies via a demon snake, then he's in space, and then he's fighting Freddy. Then we have the remake which cancels out the original timeline and delivered the final blow to the series.

So we'll never get our classic Jason in his original timeline, in the woods. It's sad.

People always said "It's just the same thing each time!"

I'm also a huge fan of classic Jason in the woods F13 movies, although I still like JGTH and FVJ, but not Jason X or the remake. There is one way though that I can think of to get another Jason in the woods movie that would be in the original timeline. They never really went into Jason getting from Manhattan to Crystal Lake in JGTH. I think they should do a movie set in Crystal Lake that fills the gap between VIII and JGTH.

wait I thought you said this film is the last Friday the 13th film set around a lake/woods area? Friday the 13th(2009) also takes place around a lake/woods area.

exactly we always have the classics and the only ones that are classics as from Jason goes to hell: the final Friday this series went downhill big time. though not entirely as part of Jason goes to hell: the final Friday I like, like the campy and pleasurable tone and atmosphere and I love Jason x so much because it feels as much like an '80s Friday the 13th film as humanly possible. you can't make a film after 1991 that feels as much like an '80s film as that film.

Part 2 was the last one with a truly classic setting, i.e., a real summer camp set by a lake in the Northeast (Connecticut; the first movie was filmed in New Jersey). Part 3 was on a fake farm in Southern California set by the mosquito-larvae-infested stagnant water of "Crystal Cow Pond". Part 4 looked better, but it was still in Southern California, as was part 5. Part 6 at least used a real summer camp again, but it was in Georgia, which doesn't look like the Northeast. Part 7 was in Alabama set by "Crystal Swamp".
