'Fresh horses' term

I was checking out this movie, since I'd never seen it, and was reading about Andrew McCarthy. I saw a couple of posts wondering about the term "fresh horses" and what it could possibly mean or its relation to the movie.

So I wanted to offer what I know of that term. I've heard the term used in western movies and historicals: when people are riding long distances, they will stop occasionally to get "fresh horses." Horses that aren't worn out. They switch out their tired horses for fresh ones to finish the long journey.

I don't know if that's what the author meant by the title or what relation it would have to the plot, since I haven't seen the movie.

"They switch out their tired horses for fresh ones..."

Yes.

Jewel even has a speech that essentially says this.

"Maybe it's another dimension. Or, you know, just really deep." --Needy
