I'm sorry but it is very disappointing to me that more people don't remember this film. I mean, c'mon; some really obscure movies have at least SOME activity on their boards. Well, I guess I'm alone in loving this late night weirdo classic. My mom brought this film home for me when she worked the midnight shift as a nurse, much like Sunny in the film. I used to hate when she left so she would buy videos off of $10 racks for me and my dad to watch. I always knew this film had faults but I love it. A few months ago I flew to LA by myself to see a concert. It was my first time in LA and my hotel (the Best Western on Franklin) was kiddie-corner from the Hollywood Tower. This was Darlane Fluegel's character's building in Freeway. It was so cool to stand right there because I've always loved Freeway and I just wish I would have ran into Billy Drago! At any rate, here I am burning the midnight oil in the land of TRULY forgotten '80's flicks. I have my Criterions and I can get snooty about movies but I have my guilty pleasures; movies that everyone but me hate.

Like Return Of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

or Vamp

or Maximum Overdrive.

But those movies have posts.

C'mon, someone besides me must like this film.

Peace,

Jeff

I saw this on video in the mid-90s and then I was in LA for a long time in the early 2000s and I picked this up at Tower Records (before they all disappeared) - I ended up back in LA a lot the last few years - and I always think of this when I pass the Hollywood Tower - this movie is cool.

Is it great? No. But it has a certain panache and it's cool!

The movie is a great guilty pleasure and I would run into a location or 2 and think of 'Freeway'!!

Cool! Thanks for sharing. Good to know that someone else out there remembers this film. It certainly has that great '80's atmosphere that doesn't exist in films anymore. It was actually based on a novel by a woman named Deanne Barkley. I found a copy online and read it when it arrived. It was ok but not nearly as good as the film. I now even own two copies of the book because I later found a hardcover copy that had some awesome artwork on the cover. The novel barely focuses on the killer and he isn't a priest. He doesn't even drive that big creepy car just some lame 70's economy car lol. It has it's moments but is one of the few examples IMHO where the film is better than the book. Good to know there is still someone driving by the Hollywood Tower and thinking of Freeway! :)

I never thought anyone would ever respond to this post. Thanx for sharing!
