Do girls really react like that the first time they see a guy's penis? The girl's I've been with have never reacted like that when seeing mine. They were more mature, even at 14 or 15 when they saw it. They never flinched, or looked away all startled like Darcy did in the shower scene.

Keep in mind that in 1987 we didn't have the internet as we do now. Plus most movies aside from porn didn't ever show a man's penis. Women then who were virgins and such would not be TOO familiar especially if they grew up in a house with no men. Like her character.

Don't forget what era this is. Whilst you youngins are happy to view naked people on a regular basis back in the "olden days" when we were teenagers, we were a little bit more modest. You could easily have a very sexual relationship with your partner and still not get a decent, unobstructed view of each others nether-regions. Don't base her reactions on how a girl would react these days.
And also, my interpretation was that she was embarrassed, not that she didn't know what one looked like. Sex between teenagers wasn't as casual as it is nowadays. So bear in mind, that they probably shagged each other with most of their clothes on because they'd be doing it on the sly somewhere where they wouldn't get caught.
If this were a movie set today and she was reacted oddly, then yead I'd say she grew up in a convent, but not back then.

I'm not. The first time a girl ever saw mine was in 1991, only 3 years after this movie was made, so it was in the same time period. Mine was the first one she had ever seen (with the exception of changing the occasional diaper), and she was much more mature than Darcy was. She looked at it, said "Wow" and reached out for it. Nothing like Darcy's reaction.

^^Fictional characters. ie, it's just a movie, and a pretty serious subject for it's time. I think the writers needed to inject a little humor to keep it light.
And the other lady posting is right. Not many in the 80's or 1991 would have done "everything but penetration" sessions & still consider themselves virgins like "the kids" do today. So yeah, it was entirely possible with how far Darcy's mother was up her ass & how there would have been someone ALWAYS home @ Stan's house that there would have been time to really get to know each other, in the physical sense. Darcy's mom would have barged right into her room w/o knocking, as would Stan's family.
You're also glossing over the fact Darcy didn't grow up with a dad in her house, or brothers. Seeing random peen wouldn't have been something she was used to, unlike those of us with brothers.
