Humorless

Just one in a long line of comedies that aren't funny. There were times when I wanted to slap Mary Gross. The scene where her legs are thrown out from under her and she's handcuffed made me feel good because her characters deserved it.

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

I felt a subtle sexual purpose to the scene, like she was a virgin growing and broken in by a male colleague. I also felt like it would have been more interesting if the nerdy guy got it on with Ellie and the more serious guy with Mary. Also, Mary Gross needed to push the envelope with her performance more because after all, this is a movie!

No, I'm laughing with you not at{against} you!

I think this was another attempt to cash in on Police Academy. And it is sad that it comes from the people who gave us Stripes and Ghostbusters. But people didn't go for this crap.

I can see it as a riff on Police Academy, but I liked this film a lot. The "tough girl" wasn't so tough as to not understand relationships, the "nerd girl" wasn't so nerdy as to be utterly and totally lost in any social situations--they were real people, if exaggerated a little for humor.

Ultimately, I've laughed my ass off at this film in ways a film hasn't been able to get me for a couple of decades. It doesn't take itself so seriously as to make it satirical, but it doesn't try to be a true farce, either.
