shareRepulsive is a positive comment for Franco films. It's intended to be repulsive, in meaning that you are repelled by the subject matter and/or presentation, and you are right that it is also poetic. I find this dichotomy to make this film one of Franco's best efforts.
Repulsive yes, but not disgusting. That's a term I'd save for the wholly manipulative series of Saw films, all without redeeming qualities.
