Donnie 'Cake'

Does anyone know where 'Cake' comes from? Is this answered in the novel the movie is based upon?

bccoolj, see the flat under Question and Comment.

Where is the flat under Question and Comment located? There are no links to the left or in the body of the movie entry that displays this. Is there another name for that that I'm not aware of?

Even if I can't see it, do you know why Donnie is named 'Cake?'

"Question and Comment" is the title of a flat in the message board for the movie; you have to click "more" at the bottom of the message board to bring up the part of the board that has the flat.

In any case, on that flat, I wrote under "Question and Comment" the following:

"In the novel, "Cake" is a nickname given Donnie by the maid (Clarissa) of a central character named "Judge" Frank Pace, a father-figure/counselor to both Donnie and Gavin. I haven't seen the film, but from the IMDB website there does not appear to be such a character in the movie (or maybe the name is changed?)"

At that time I hadn't seen the movie. Now I have. There is no "Judge" Frank Pace in the film, and no maid, and I guess there is just no explanation in the movie for the nickname. Maybe something was left on the cutting room floor.

Hope this helps.

I think by "flat under" you mean "post titled".

"flat" is a format for displaying message threads.

when Cake visits at the end, after hearing Babs call him that, his fiancee Leslie asks "Cake?" (while they wait in the foyer as Babs tidies up) to which he replies "don't ask"
