This is something that will always be remembered, it is a vivid picture of baseball's darkest time. This film consists of constant finger pointing and blaming for one Charles Comiskey, who, by all means, was a corporate figurehead, and probably the biggest one for his time. This is a series of events that people can never overlook. This scandal gives part of Chicago sports a black eye, and is something that Chicago can never live down. In reality, no one cares about what the Sox did in 2005 because this is so much more monumental. The Cubs may be cursed, but the White Sox deserve to be cursed. How can you corrupt something as pure and as American as Major League Baseball's World Series? The movie was very well done, but pertaining to these events, the White Sox should have been removed from Major League Baseball entirely.

Nobody associated with the Chicago WHite Sox today had anything to do with what happened in 1919. I agree with teh sentiment because everyone involved behaved atrociously- except the manager and the guys who didn't throw it.

I happen to like the White Sox now because of Guillen though.

Please keep in mind that the Chicago Cubs have never thrown a world series and that they are the original Chicago baseball team. That is baseball history.

Also please keep in mind the White Sox were the only ones to get CAUGHT throwing a World Series. The 1918 series of Cubs vs. Red Sox was suspect to say the least.

Gambling was a big part of sports at the time, just as steroids and corked bats are now. I'm in no way defending what the White Sox did then, but it is also petty to say an event that happened 89 years ago is the one reason you don't like the White Sox now.

To nrabond007: To have dismantled the White Sox because of the scandle would be like disbanding the government because of Watergate or Iran/Contra. Your comments are entirely vitriolic and therefore of no credibility. And your Cubs bias only accentuates it.

To iSHAVEmyASS: Shaving doesen't remove the stink. Your anti-Cubs venom is as ridiculous as nrabond's vitriol.

This is a movie board, not a baseball board.

Umm, are you saying that you agree with the manager? Are you saying that he didn't act atrociously? He was the reason why these men threw the series! He was a cheapskate who lied to them and abused them! I know because I worked for someone like this, and they are still affecting me even though I've moved on! While there was no excuse for what they did, they did what they had to do because of the manager! It was 1919, not 2014! They didn't make the big bucks like they do today! But the manager had clubhouse parties that cost lots of money, but refused to pay his men. He gave them leftover party food or cheap party food instead of the money that they deserved! So tell me - who behaved atrociously?

I agree with teh sentiment because everyone involved behaved atrociously- except the manager and the guys who didn't throw it.

Exactly. Cominsky was a cheapskate and if he paid his players what they were worth they wouldn't have felt the need to get that money somewhere else.

I'm not a baseball fan but I do know quite a bit about sports and this scandal and did enjoy the film.

As mentioned, not a single individual associated with the team today was associated with this scandal, in fact aren't all the players involved dead? Yes it's a horrible thing that almost killed the sport of baseball but I can't see why one would hate todays version of the team because of it.

Dear, "I wish the Cubs Were Winners" (aka: nrabond007): Charles Comiskey was a greedy sack of s#@%t! It was a time when players were treated like dirt. I admit, it's gone to the other extreme nowadays, but players back then had it rough. The Cubs blame everyone in the world for their consistent failures on & off of the field - including their own fans! As mentioned within this post, no one on the 2005 ChiSox World Series Championship team was ever around in 1919, so get over it! - Everyone else did. This was an excellent movie, possibly as good, if not better than "The Natural".

PS- Go WHITE SOX!!!

I grew up in Northwest Indiana and was closer to the south side of Chicago so I cheered for the White Sox over the Cubs. If you liked one of these teams, you probably hated the other. Later in my life, I lived in Connecticut and found the same thing was true of Yankees and Mets fans. When the White Sox won the American League pennant in 1959, I can remember the papers making a big deal out of it--it was their first World Series in 40 years and throwing it in 1919. Since I was only 10 in 1959, I didn't know what the heck they were talking about.

I Grew up in South Chicago and Now Live in Northwest Indiana and i have always been a Cubs fan and White Sox fan. But i tend to go more with the Cubs with my dad Being a die hard. The only thing i don,t like about the sox is I can,t stand Us Cellular. The Stadium is a 60 million dollar arcade. Half the people don,t even watch the game, they watch the scoreboard. I miss Comisky Park. The place was really kewl and had alot of History.But i think this is the year we will see them both playing in Oct.

I couldn't stop laughing after I read this post. Yes because we all know the Black Sox scandal was the one and only thing to ever corrupt Major League Baseball. Not Steroids, not cork bats, something which the Cubs former star Sammy Sosa is quite familiar with. The Cubs have failed for 99 years, they have done nothing to help the game of baseball except lose. They are a team that does nothing but let down their fans year after year. The White Sox win in 2005 was monumental, it was the first World Series ever won by a foreign born manager. We had arguably one of the greatest 4 man rotations to ever play in the playoffs. Paul Konerko's grand slam, Scott Podsednik's walk off, Mark Buehrle getting a save, the 2005 World Series was a great spectacle for all of Mahor League Baseball and Cubs fans have nothing better to do than ridicule us for something that happened before they were even born. the White Sox brought pride back to Chicago baseball, while the Cubs are just a joke. Hey everyone has a bad century though right?

The Cubs being possible cheaters goes way back. The 1908 World Series victory was tainted in the eyes of many. People even called it the curse of Fred Merkle. Especially the fans of the New York Giants. What happened was this. A game between the Giants and Cubs was tied in the bottom of the ninth. Merkle was on first and another runner was on third (or maybe second). Al Bridwell of the Giants hit a ball that found a gap in the outfield allowing the lead runner to reach home plate safely. Merkle saw this and figured the game was over. Back then, fans would often run onto the field. Merkle saw the crowd and figured since the winning run had scored, he needn't continue on to second base and get mobbed by unruly fans. So, he stopped where he was in the base path and headed back to the dugout. The Cubs saw this and immediately scrambled for the ball. The Cubs fielder took the ball and jumped on second base. He claimed to the umpire that Merkle should be called out. The umpire agreed and all hell broke loose. It was ultimately decided that the game would be replayed if the Cubs and Giants were tied at the end of the season. As fate would have it, they were tied at the end of the season and a one-game playoff occurred which the Cubs won. Thus they won the National League flag and the opportunity to play in the World Series which they also won.

There was also plenty of controversy over the ball. Many claimed that the Cubs hadn't retrieved the actual ball but just used any available ball from their dugout.

Stop fibbing and admit you are jealous of the White Sox. Many Cub fans are nice, but a surprising percentage are arrogant, snotty, and since 2005 very jealous. Just remember, 2005 WORLD CHAMPIONS!

Even tho the 1919 White Sox "threw" the world series they shouldn't be hated for it. If your gonna hate them then you should hate all of baseball cause gambling and throwing games was the norm and not an exception. Commissioner Kennesaw Mountain Landis basically wanted to try and make an example of the Sox even tho he was a gambler himself.
