When I first saw this movie I actually thought Thornburg was a decent guy.

By comparison I thought Thornburg was a saint compared to Hans Gruber and his henchman, it was easy for me to overlook Thornburg's greed and weaselly behavior, I was even shocked that Holly punched him, on subsequent viewings I realized Thornburg was a total sleazebag.

I sympathized with him til he thrreatens to deport the housekeeper back to her former country.

I agree that scene was when you realize Thornburg is a sleazebag who'll stop at nothing to get what he desires at the expense of others.

He’s a good man in the loosest sense of the word- in that he’s not a terrorist/career criminal/murderer.

He is a career criminal - hes a journalist.
