Who misses the 80's?

Remember the good 'ol days of big hair, rock 'n roll, and groupies? Those were the good times. The music was better and gas prices were cheaper.

Yes, the 80's were a very cool time for music and film. I wish today's music and movies were as good as those from the 80's.

reply

Whitesnake,
most of the movies nowadays are better than it was twenty+years ago but......

the 80's music blows you away!

:O)

reply

I do!! The last GREAT-time era!!

Not mean, why do think Grundge & Alternative got so big in the early 90's. I was so sick of guys wearing make up and releasing "power ballads". Sure I will take 98 cents a gallon over $2.89 any day but if I had to listen to crap like Winger and Warrant every day it's not worth it.

reply

If you knew good music, you wouldn't have listened to Winger & Warrent, even in the 80's. True 'rockers' didn't.

reply

sorry, but hair band music was mostly awful...all glitz and little talent

reply

Turn off your MTV I love the 80s show for a moment and put the stereo back on. You are confused, and I'm sorry. If you weren't in LA in the 80s, all you are doing is assuming. You know where that gets you.
People stick with what you know - not what you assume to know. :)
You can look back and all you will see is Aqua Net and Leopard scarves, but there was something there. It was intangible, it was special and it was ours. So go get your own era. I will make fun of it as soon as it is over.

Guns N' Roses = what hair metal should have been. Just imagine if all the hair metal bands had kicked as much butt as GN'R. There never would have been a need for grunge.

And like another poster pointed out, look where grunge went. The leader killed himself because he couldn't handle the pressure of fame, and grunge helped lead us into an era of rock music that is arguably worse than the hair metal of the 80s. Seriously, look at all the emo-crap out there that pretends to be rock.

reply

people go on about nirvana replacing hair metal with something "true" but all they did was replace with nirvana and a bunch of copycat manufactured bands like pearl jam. if i have to choose between someone being self consciously decadent or self consciously "deep" and mopey...then i choose W.A.S.P.

i like nirvana, but the fans have to admit that they werent *that* good and nobody can make it through a nirvana album without skipping a few tracks, unlike master of reality or master of puppets, which i personally always listen to all the way through.

reply

YES!!! I love W.A.S.P.. They are one of the most underrated bands ever. And they still put on an incredible live show. It sure beats some moper in dirty clothes staring at his shoes while whining about his bad childhood. Don't get me wrong. Not all grunge bands were lousy. I liked Soundgarden and especially Alice In Chains. Stone Temple Pilots were okay. But if those guys ever had an original idea it would die of loneliness.

reply

You were obviously in some lame little town in the midwest or not even born yet to make comments that the metal of the 80s had no talent. You are obviously an idiot. Guns and roses were always overrated alcoholics. I know, I was there. I lived in LA in the 80s and if you weren't there, you won't get it.
So just leave your loser ideas to yourself because if you had experienced one night at the Whiskey watching bands and closing the night in the Rainbow parking lot, you would know what Im talking about dude.
And like the other dude said, if you listed to Winger and Warrant you weren't listening to real metal. You were obviously a stripper at the Seventh Veil.

reply

The 80s was much more than just power ballads sung by Winger and Warrant.

I was too young to remember the 80s (born in '84). But I realize how important musically in terms of metal/hard rock the decade was.

Black Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Accept, Helloween, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Saxon, Fates Warning, Queensryche, Savatage, Exodus, Slayer, Overkill, etc, etc, etc

They all released brillant albums during the 80s.

Some examples
Black Sabbath - The Mob Rules
Savatage - Sirens
Saxon - Strong Arm of the Law
Anthrax - Spreading the Disease

I miss them too... except being the nerdy looking kid with hair down to my shoulders in highschool... Hell, what am I talking about? I'm still nerdy looking with a (thinning hair) crewcut. Weren't the 80's great?!

reply

I do too

reply

I don't. Those bands suck and they all look and act like morons. Thank God Nirvana came along and wiped them all off the face of the earth.

"I dunno...burn stuff?"

reply

lol and look where the "Grunge" scene ended up.....

and contrary to what you or others might think

the hair metal scene is still alive......

reply

I hate the 90's

You will always find plenty of people who adore the 80s and loathe it also. For me,the 80s represented the last stand of rock and roll.It all went down hill after that. Pop, R&B, and Country Western included.

reply

It's seems that some people still are trapped in the 80s based on their hair styles.

Maybe in your next life, you'll believe the Zodiac when it tells you to cut the red wire.

reply

well what's to be gained by having a currently fashionable look? do you get magical powers by dressing in a modern style? of course not, just photos of yourself you will laugh at in a few years & the approval of people whos opinion you probably don't care for.

i don't see how someone can be happy if they only dress the way they do for fear of being mocked by kids in the street, or whatever.

do your own thing, were not in school anymore...

reply

Still though...

reply

erm, ditto...

I wasn't around long enough to have a decent recollection of the 80's (I turned 8 in 1990) but I still love that whole decade.

I also totally dig this movie despite the fact that the majority of it is comprised of interviews with braindead wannabe rockstars who "know they're gonna make it."

I like to play GTA: Vice City because it is such a nostalgia trip back to the 80's.

I like new music, music from the 50's and every decade between. Every decade has good music and crap music. To get to the good stuff, you have to sort through lots of crap. That's how it's always been.

In the eighties you had Van Halen, and alot of other bands trying to be Van Halen. Eventually people tired of the hair, spandex, mandatory ballads, bright colors, and simple lyrics about having fun and meeting girls.

Enter the Seattle Grunge scene. Now that's gotten old.

I am not exactly sure what the strick definitions of "Emo" are, but it seems to suck. I don't get into what I call "Happy Punk" either. It almost sounds like punk, but instead of lyrics of rebellion, it's just boy-meets-girl.

There does not seem to be much out there today.

reply

there is dude, but you have to look harder than we did in the good old days. thank god for the internet i say.
orange goblin, queens of the stoneage, down, akercocke, radiohead etc all rock, in my opinion. system of a down were great too, but they split last year.
